BBVA Compass Bowl

BBVA Compass Bowl (Birmingham, Ala. – Saturday, January 5, 2013)
Ole Miss vs. Pittsburgh – 1 p.m. ET (ESPN)

These two teams both have first year coaches and 6-6 seasons. Ole Miss started the season winning against #24 (FCSCentral Arkansas, and then losing every other game against ranked opponents until their last game with rival #25 Miss State, winning 41-24. First year head coach Hugh Freeze has done a good job this year, taking over a team that went 2-10 and winless in the SEC. This will mark Ole Miss' first bowl game since the 2009 season, when they beat Oklahoma State in the Cotton Bowl. Although Ole Miss won 6 games this year and was competitive in most losses, their wins aren't overwhelmingly impressive.

Pitt, on the other hand, does have some good wins. The Panthers beat #13 Virginia Tech 35-17, #19 Rutgers 27-6, and playing current #1 Notre Dame to a 3OT loss. This is the 3rd year in a row for Pitt going to Birmingham in the Compass Bowl. Pitt beat Kentucky in the 2011 BBVA Compass Bowl, but fell to SMU last year.

I like Pitt in this game, Ole Miss just can't match up with what the Panthers have done this year.
